Abstract

Introduction. High blood pressure is the most seen pathology in primary care, it has been described that blood pressure is not controlled in 40% of those receiving treatment. Objective. To determine the clinical-epidemiological characteristics of patients diagnosed with hypertension. Methods. Descriptive study; The criteria for the classiication of hypertension was the Guide of the European Society of Cardiology 2013. Results. A total of 4634 individuals (63% female and 37% male) with an average of 7.5 years of diagnosis were included. The mean age was 56 years. 51% and 55% did not have systolic and diastolic blood pressure respectively, 73% reported regularly taking their antihypertensive. Men had a higher percentage of uncontrolled blood pressure. BP did not increase from 0.4% - 2.7% in the younger age group to 63.2% - 67.8% in the ≥ 50 years group. The multivariate analysis was performed in two groups of participants: those who did not take antihypertensive drugs at the time of the study (1258) and those who claimed to be taking their medications (3376). Overweight and obesity were signiicantly contributing factors in uncontrolled BP and were common in both groups. Conclusion. Levels of control of hypertension are unsatisfactory. The presence of multiple modiiable risk factors requires an interdisciplinary approach to this priority problem of public health.
