Abstract

This article has as a fundamental basis to publicize the practice of female genital mutilation, taking as parameters the development of it in Kenya, a country where the author had the opportunity to work. Peace studies contemplate the recognition of multiple cultures, all of these being valid and legitimate. However, due to certain physical and psychologically damaging practices to human beings, the debate between cultural relativism, ethnocentrism, or the defense of human rights arises. Finally, the building of a culture of peace is considered the only possible way to ensure the integral development of the members of different cultures.
